How to make a perfect Gin Margarita

Gin Margarita cocktail with a lime wedge garnish on a table

Love a classic Margarita but fancy something a little different? Why not try Gin Margarita.

Swapping tequila for gin creates a cocktail that's bright, citrusy and wonderfully refreshing. We make ours with The Chemist Gin, fresh lime juice and Madame Jennifer Orange Liqueur for a perfectly balanced drink.

What you'll need to make a Gin Margarita

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the glass: run a lime wedge around the rim of your glass and dip it into salt to create a salted rim.

  2. Add the gin, lime juice and orange liqueur to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.

  3. Shake vigorously for around 10–15 seconds until thoroughly chilled.

  4. Strain and garnish with a lime wedge.

Why gin works so well in a Margarita

The botanicals in gin add an extra layer of complexity to a traditional Margarita. Juniper, citrus and herbal notes complement the lime juice beautifully, while the orange liqueur brings sweetness and depth.

The result is a cocktail that's crisp, refreshing and slightly more aromatic than the tequila-based original.

Tips for the perfect Gin Margarita

Use freshly squeezed lime juice for the best flavour.

Chill your glass beforehand for an extra-refreshing serve.

Adjust the salt rim to suit your taste. A half-rim is a great option.

For a sweeter cocktail, you can add a small splash of sugar syrup.

Did you know?

Our Madame Jennifer Orange Liqueur is made in Hove using sweet and bitter orange peels for a bright citrus flavour. Use it for Margaritas, Cosmopolitans and anywhere you’d use a triple sec.
